And now for all: I am DONE with the first full draft of DRAGON'S HEART! It runs a couple hundred words under 80,000, and will probably go through several heavy revisions. But I now consider the book complete. That makes it the longest of the four books.
Am talking to the editor at Harcourt now about scheduling. It obviously won't be on the spring 08 list, because that catalog is already pretty much set, but if the revisions go well, I am counting on Fall 08.

Dear Ms. Yolen,
I am a fantasy book fan and dragons are at the top of my list! I loved your "Pit Dragon's" series and I am looking forward to your "Dragon's Heart". I loved the twist that you gave to your dragons, the way they sent color to communicate and the way you connected Humans to dragons. I am looking forward to "Dragon's Heart".
Also I have just read Sister "Light/Sister Dark" and I am looking for "White Jenna" and "The One Armed Queen". I enjoy your books. Thanks for sharing! Someday I hope that my stories can touch readers as your books have!

I think of "Johanna" as done. So if you as a reader want to give her a happy ending. . .enjoy yourself. Not for sale since she's my creation, but for pleasure, sure.

Johanna "got to me" particularly and I wondered if I could treat all to kind of Johanna "sequel" I whipped up for fun. That was a terrible way for a brave loyal girl to go down -- hopefully not a parable!

I am now four chapters from the end. A writer friend will do a critical reading for me, then I send it off to the editor.
There will be, I'm sure, several revisions. But I am so very close.

i am so happy that your new book is almost done!! i am a huge fan of your series. i think it is the best series about dragons! it really captures the magic and beauty of dragons. i cant wait until your new book comes out!
