I read that Zafon lives in LA is a screenwriter. What movies has he written?

Recently retired,I have been searching for such a book as this which has taken me to places I have longed to visit and have now the opportunity to do so.I shall spend a couple of weeks in spring in Barcelona and re-read his wonderful story between visits to tapas bars and strolls around the old town.I have rarely been gripped in such a way and await his next novel with wondrous anticipation.Thank you writer of this marvel.

I love your book. I visited Barcelona a few years ago, spent a week there, and enjoy reading about it. Luckily I chose Shadow of the Wind to review for a book club; I am glad I picked such a good book.

Regarding Aimee's question, I had the chance to attend a reading by the author in which the same topic came up. He explained that he wanted readers to guess who that "mysterious" figure was because the point was not WHO but WHY. He said that the novel was not a whodunit, therefore the clues to guess who had done what were there for you to pick up and complete the jigsaw. The important part was why these characters had become the people they were, the reason behind their choices, their circumstances... I read the novel a few days later, which I think it one of the best five books I've ever read, and I can see the author's point perfectly now, and why he left the clues in the open for readers to find out. I also would like to point that, regardless of genre or subject matter, shadow must be one of the most cleverly and artfully written pieces of fiction I've ever experienced. I'm looking forward to more book from this exceptionally brilliant author.

Carlos Ruiz Zafon must have sold his soul to create such a remarkable novel. This book covers many topics and leaves the reader gasping for the next passage. I finished it last week but I think it and the characters will stay with me for some time. The ending to me dissappinted slightly but the very end, the last two lines leave me wondering is this somewhat autobiographical. Is Carlos (or Julian) thanking Daniel and Bea for returning his ability to write and live????

I really enjoyed reading this book. I agree with other posters who have said that even after putting the book down, they feel that the characters from the book are still there with them.. living and breathing. However I would like to ask if I am the only one who had guessed the identity of Coubert by page 150? I doubt I am. The identity of "the devil" became apparent way too quickly for my liking. I would be interested in other's view on this... And please, no hate messages in responce.. if you are going to take offence that I didn't like EVERYTHING about the novel, then you are not the sort of person that I am interested in reading a responce to my post.

This is an absolutely amazing book - certainly one of the best I have ever read. The characters are totally unforgettable, and they are still haunting my imagination.

This book is one of those amazing experiences for a reader. I was lost in it for three days and even dreamed about it! There are few books in a person's life that so capture the imagination. Unlike the gloomy prediction at the end of the book, that the new world will not value books or reading, I optimistically believe that as long as there are writers like Carlos Ruiz Zafon and books like Shadow of the Wind there will be readers to devour them and appreciate them.

I'm not a psycho stalker, but Shadow has moved me to the point where I feel it's necessary for me to send Zafon some 'fan mail' and a bottle of Dom. I think excellence like this deserves a special gift of recognition. Does anyone know if the publisher will forward a letter and the Dom onto Zafon if I send it to them? Thanks!

Inside the cover of my copy are reveiws and comments from various sources....one further down on the second page of this is info stating that Shadow enjoyed two years on the best selller's list in Spain before being translated and available in America.
There is a comment stating this is a debut novel and that Zafron has plans for 2 more of similar nature....I can't imagine pulling this off a second time....
This was a great roller coaster ride of a read. Finally someone who bothered to include the twists and turns of plot and sublpot with out spoon feeding the reader. I too look forward to another by Zafon.
