From what I've heard, IC's hoping it will be released early 2010. Penguin are apparently hoping for early 2009. I hope Penguin are right, but I would doubt it. Still, fingers crossed!

Does anybody know roughly what part of 2008 (or even 2009 knowing IC!) the 6th book (Sending) is to be released? Ie, what month?

Currently the book seems to be confirmed for the 4th of Feb...so then printing should begin in late December. Its really not that far off now.

penguin has changed the release date for the fourth book 'The Stone Key' to the 4th of february 2008, instead of october

According to the Penguin website, the 5th book "The Stone Key" is going to be published in Australia on the 29th of October.

Its true. 2 books. The Sending will be preceeded by a book called 'The stone key' TSK is due late 2007, leaving The sending due in 2008 and pushing Darkbade back to at least 2009. So its smiles all round!

The Sydney Morning Herald (spectrum 06/01) has "Isobelle Carmody continues The Obernewtyn Chronicles (Penguin, September 2007)". Sounds to me like she's writing the two books, and anything in print is better than nothing at all, even it is merely the sliver of a sentence. Even so, i nearly squealed with delight when i read it! hehe maybe soon....maybe soon...
