I agree! The death of Helen was shocking! And quite unnecessary, i thought. Intruiging hug from her neighbor. (Barbara's). Great development of her character in this book. Her sadness at the end that she isn't perhaps seen by Lynley as a friend was very moving.

I agree with Daniel, the interplay between the two couples was excellent and I always found Helen so down-to-earth and entertaining. I'm sorry to see her killed off. I'm eager to see how my heroine, Barbara, fares in the next novels. That hug from her neighbor at the end of the book piqued my interest. Could there possibly be a romance for the dear woman? I don't understand the questions from "Aunt Walrus" and Carole. Which books were you referring to? I'm sorry to admit that I'm too lazy to figure out Al from TX question. I know that "I, Richard," and "A Place of Hiding" do not include Linley. In fact, "...Hiding" focuses on Deborah and Simon St. James.

Can someone supply me with a list of the Lynley books that is chronological, not according to when they were published, but according to "real time" in the books? Also, in which book does Lynley have an affair with Deborah? Thanks!

Was no one else really unhappy that Helen Lynley was killed off? In past books, I really enjoyed the interplay between Thomas, Helen, Simon, and Deborah. I wish this book had more of them (in a personal sense) in it. This book almost felt more technical and a bit less interesting from a human nature perspective.I didn't feel that I had really "gotten" as much from this book as in previous ones.
