My name is Courtney and I am a 17 year old girl from Australia. I came across your first book about 4 years ago but didnt end up reading it. I recently thought of it again about a month ago where I found it in my school library. I have since just finished reading your series and am absolutely astounded at what you have been through. I cannot begin to comprehend the way that you coped with your particular situation and I admire you greatly. I am simply fascinated with your story, not in a way that promotes such treatment but in a way that I admire your courage and ability to forgive greatly. I want to thank you for the amazing opportunity you have given me to read your books, it is like nothing else.

David, I was shocked and horrified to read your books. I actually had to get rid of the first one; I just couldn't look at it any longer without my insides twisting. I hope the woman that birthed you chokes and dies a horrible death, She is an inhuman monster. I'm so proud of you for surviving and growing up to be a loving, caring father.

I read this book after I had my son and still to this day can't believe a mother could do such horrible things to her son. After reading David's books, I am a changed person. When we are young and we don't get our way, we think we all have horrible lives, but to read something like this about someone else makes you realize that life isn't as bad as you think. This poor child suffered for a long time and still had the courage to grow up and become a respectable adult! David Pelzer truly is my hero. I hope for nothing but health, success and love for the future! God Bless David!

Dave - your story is incredible. After reading all of your books many times, the message of hope and love should find its way into the hearts of each person who reads your gripping tale. Absolutely inspiring! You are a role model for all who have suffered abuse in one form or another.

I had read all three of David's books!!! As a small child myself i was physically abuse for 7 years by my own mother! I am a mother of a BEAUTIFUL baby boy!! I could NEVER hurt him in any way what so ever!! David was in foster care as well as i am now. Im 16 years old,i have been in foster care for 10 years now. I have currently 2 1/2 years left! I have to idea how you can survive ammonia and clorox mixed together! They dont go together well! Im in shock about David's abuse that he endured as a small child! I cried so hard at times that i had to stop reading and calm down!! I have no idea how much can a child go though and still be alive today telling the story!!David your AMAZING to tell your story to the world! your my idol because you and i have gone through much as a child and we are still alive today!! thank you so much for telling yur inspiring and unexpecting story about your abuse!! im so so so sorry that you had to go though such a misabale and tragic event in your life!!!

I was working this past school year at an alternate school for troubled teens & I saw David's first book in their library. I read the whole book at lunch time & after school. Then I started reading The Lost Boy which I still have to finish when school resumes--because they don't seem to have it at my local library; however, I did read three of the other books, including the one by David's brother.
I don't know how David could have survived the ammonia-chlorox incidents & another, which I don't even want to mention. It's just amazing! I also don't know why the social services system did not take the other boys out of the home or at least watch over them more carefully. Good luck David with all your good works!

I just finished reading the book and my heart still aching. Just on June, the last day of school my 13 yearl come home with the book. She told me that she was almost finished and she will like me to read it. She though I was going to like it because she thought is was my kind of reading; Fiction. As I read the first pages I was not able to continue; the book stayed almost two months next to my bed. Finally I had the courage to keep on reading, and couldn't put it down; I had the quest to find out how Dave was able to survive and become and adult.
As I discussed the book with my daughter, tears came to her eyes. It was hard to explain to her that child abuse is a serious crime and the story portrayed on this book was the real experience of a boy. Dave, as much as reading your live experience made me sad, it has help me to be more aware and to know that if I suspect of child abuse, I must report it. Child abuse does exist, more so in today's world where many parents are covering it by stating is the right way to discipline children within their culture.
