I went to fanfic and read Sacred Mountain. I thought it was a great read. At least, Ayla heard about Durc and how he was doing. I'm going to try a few others and see what some other authors have to say.

What a disappointment. One looooong introduction after another at Summer Meeting. Too much review of past events. The only new thing was the revelation about how children are conceived. I don't care what happens to any of them anymore. The first 4 were amazing --- but I'm done. Sorry Ms Auel, try knitting.

Not worth the paper it was printed on.
I regret with every cell in my body reading this rubbish.

i too was so disappointed in the painted caves,
i don't believe jondalar would have been unfaithful to ayla, it seemed the author was struggling for something to write and ran out of ideas. i was expecting to read about more inventions ...perhaps the wheel. they had such a hard time pulling the loads ...
i was sure ayla would have been reunited with her son in some way ...even if it had only been a brief meeting so she could see that he was living a good life with a wife and children.
i have discussed this book with other readers and they agree it was disappointing....

Sue, just type in Earth Children Sacred Mountain, and you should find it. This site won't let me post the link.

To those wanting to hear more about Durc, Ayla, Broud and other characters from Ms Auels series try the following. Go to your internet search engine, search for, Earths Children Fan Fiction, and enjoy more about someone else's imagination concerning Ms Auels brilliant series. You don't have to enjoy, or agree with anything, just give it a chance. These stories were written with new characters as well as new looks at Mammoth Hunters tribe and others. It was, and is, a blessing to a true and faithful Auel Fan.

Just finished Painted Caves and I'm very disappointed. Please either write a proper ending which would include Ayla being reunited with Durc or have someone else write it for you. I feel like Kathy Bates from Misery. You just can't end it like this!! We want to see Ayla and Durc reuited. Start writing now and don't stop until we get to see Ayla and Durc finding eachother again! Oh, and killing off Broud in the process would be an awesome ending.

I was also disapointed with Land of the Painted Caves when I first read it. I then re-read it with the mind set that it is Jean's book, not mine and that time I actually enjoyed it. In the meantime I wrote what I thing the last book should be and I like my ending better - although the story must never actually end.
