First of all I wish to thank you for many hours of wonderful reading.I have been researching music in the ancient world and realize that you are probably able to respond to my querry better than anyone. I recently posted a question in a Caesar4 game forum. ---- Re Music in the Roman world. In doing some research for Asian civilizations I have discovered the use of court orchestras to enhance the ritual importance of the ruling party. This brought me to think of Rome and what it looked and felt like. Did the Romans have a court orchestra? Was the music only for temple ceremonies? What about the full appearance of Music in the Roman era. Is there any evidence that Rome used more than trumpets for official occasions? Is there any indication of what religious festivals would be called into play for formal Roman ceremonial events? An offshoot question would be about the use of music in the military aspect of Rome. --- Many thanks for your beautiful words and stunning research. Gloria Carson

I don't think that in those days that it was that big a deal, a lot of girls were married at that age in those cultures. Not that I condone sex with children, it's just that they married at a younger age back then.

The Masters of Rome series is not quite finished. She should write a book the goes from the end of The October Horse to 27 BC when Octavian is declared The Augustus.

This was the only way I could think to contact you, Ms. McCullough. I just had to say that I am disgusted that you think that the men on Pitcairn island are right in having sex with 12 year old girls, just because it's a "Polynesians cultural" thing. Let me ask you this: if you had a 12 year old daughter, would you think it was okay for grown men to have sex with her? Just because it's a cultural thing does not make it okay! Especially when it comes to having sex with children!

I just bought this book at a Thrift Store for .10. Because I noticed that the book was backwards and upside down from the front cover. I am assuming a misprint. Is there anyone out there that could help me out on if this could be of value. Thank you dawn

I own the song of Troy, and it is one of my favourite Books. Try researching the works of Heinrich Schliemann He's a German archaeologist who discovered nine superimposed city sites of Troy; he also excavated Mycenae (1822-1890) It would be a good place to start. Also compare different stories about Troy, like the movies "Helen of Troy" and "Troy". Colleen McCullough was also a history. Best wishes Angela PS. whenever there is a new mwssange posted in this board I recieve email notification just in case you want to reply
