I have to lead our book club's discussion about Shreve's A Wedding in December and would like to have some hints about doing this. Thanks.

I was surprised and disappointed by the ending that Linda died when she was 17 years old in the car accident. Where are the "clues" they hinted at the ending?

I have enjoyed Anita Shreve's style of writing so I am disappointed to say I have just read my last book by her. In the past I have been mildly disturbed by her anti Catholic comments but thought maybe I was just being paranoid. However in every book I have read by her there is at least one situation or character that sheds an extremely and unfair negative image of catholics. Light On Snow was the last straw for me. To have a character (James) that because he is Catholic will not consider abortion, but will carry a newborn baby out in the woods to die in the snow is absolutely absurd. Not to mention the girl who can not go home to her religous family with a new baby. I wish Anita Shreve would use her talent to entertain, not to spread an anti catholic message.

Can anyone translate Anita Shreve's Spanish title "Lo Que el Amor No Cuenta" (literally>What the Love Does Not Count)into one of her "published" novel titles? Can't find info about book anywhere. Thanks, ek

Etta, Eden Close is a wonderful book. I can certainly recommend it. Anita's earlier works are wonderful and Eden Close is no exception.

My book club will be discussing "Eden Close" and I cannot find anything online regarding discussion group questions for this novel. Can anyone give any guidance. Thanks.

Patricia - please dont be put on by The Last Time They Met - that was the beginning of the end for me with Anita Shreve; I gave her another go with Light on Snow but was sadly utterly disappointed. The Last Time They Met was, as you say, a very bad ending and made you feel let down by the ending. However, her earlier works, ie Weight of Water etc., are fantastic and I can highly recommend them - just steer clear of the later novels. Happy reading!

I just finished my firs Shreve - The Last Time They Met - and adored it until the last page, which not just cheapened but negated the entire story of a tender, youth to middle-love. By just reading these messages am I to gather she goes for this type of ending often? If so, I'll, sadly, have to avoid her from now on.
