I'm quite certain that the series was first published in 1990. I remember because it was the year I was born.

I read a book in high school that I am trying to find again. It is about two girls who run away from their family and hide in a cabin in the woods. While they are there (and after experiencing a small lesbian encounter - which affects the one character later in the story) a strong storm "lifts" them to an alternate level on earth. They then try to find their way back by travelling through these worlds where the different levels spin - they need to travel to each "door" (like a customs gate) to get to another level. I believe there was more than one book but for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the books or the author. I'm trying to remember as much about the books but it's too hard to explain. Can anyone help?
