Cool about Austenland. One of the few modern day Austen takes I liked. Neat anthology called Jane Austen Made Me Do It had 20 Austen related short stories, a couple moderns and the rest historical.

I read that the big news coming out of the Sundance film festival was that Austenland by Shannon Hale was going to be released. It was produced by Stephanie Meyer.

I said it the wrong way! I meant to talk about all of the books based on Jane Austen books or characters. There are tons of sequels to Pride and Prejudice for example (none of them are very good), and some books based on characters like Mary Bennet, Darcy, Wentworth plus the modern books like Jane Austen Book Club or the adaptations like Lady Vernon and Her Daughter (very good). Plus there are the ones where Jane Austen is still "living" like Jane Bites Back.

how could jane austin's book possibly be new when she's dead so long?

Has anyone read the new Jane Austen books? All the talk at Sundance was about the movie of Austenland that is produced by Stephanie Meyer. I liked Austenland a lot better than Jane Austen Book Club. I also liked "Lydia Bennet's Story" by Jane Odiwe, "A Match for Mary Bennet" by Eucharista Ward and "Lady Vernon and Her Daughter", by Jane Rubino and Caitlin Rubino Bradway. There are also two anthologies that are fun, "Dancing With Mr Darcy" and "Jane Austen Made Me Do It".

Jane Austen is the best writer of all the classic writers. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book ever but also get a laugh out of Emma. There are so many funny characters in that book makes me think of Dickens.

Why isn't there more on this board! Jane Austen is the best! Just got back from a Jane Austen conference where I met a dozen authors who write "new Austen" - Linda Berdoll, Syrie James, Jane Rubino and Caitlen Rubino Bradway, Diane Birchall. It was a lot of fun and there were at least 700 people in attendance.

sure. reading a book is completely different to watching a movie. in a book you are taken through the account of something. each minute detail is described to you and yet each person interprets it in their own way. therefore the message in a story is interpreted differently. in a movie the you are shown what happens. you dont image the wind through your hair the sun on your back the smell of baking etc... when i read a book then watch the movie i tend to look at them as completely different stories. for example, for all J.K Rowling put into the harry potter series, how much can you say is accuartly conveyed through the movies. sure the same things happen, but the telling is completely different. onto the topic of pride and prejudice movies however, i havn't actually read the book but i prefer the original movie to the one starring keira knightly because she does not represent the woman of jane austens time. her small frame her thinness even the slight boyishness about her just isn't how women were back then.

I found emma really quite dull and hard to follow. It is not the sort of book for those who like to get straight to the action
