Black Star posts on 4/5/2008 7:44:58 PM The Silver Sword Ian Serraillier Book Review Coming upon The Silver Sword by Ian Serraillier I thought it would be like a cheap $2 shop novel set in WWII, with some children trying to save themselves, but I seemed to be mistaken. After reading the first chapter I was intrigued to read more and more until I had finished the whole novel. The storyline is that Joseph Balicki escapes from a prison camp in the mountains of South Poland. He heads back to his hometown Warsaw to find that his family has disappeared. This is a story about four children trying to reunite with their family. They face Nazis, Russians and a Burgomaster on their journey to find happiness. The Silver Sword is set in the WWII era. The children have to travel through the poverty of Poland, the bomb stricken Germany and finally the safety of Switzerland. This book has a thoughtful tone about it. It draws you in to make you feel the whole aspect of WWII.
