I read a triology some time ago. The books had shape-shifting characters. Now I cannot find them. Does anyone know these books? Thanks

"The Queen's Necklace" was completely enthralling --one of those books I reread as soon as I was finished. It's so fun and swashbuckling and has all that wonderful love stuff --Like, The Three Musketeers but with goblins and madhouses. I'm making myself want to go read it again...
