Just finished reading Chalktown and absolutely loved it. Now I need to find her other books and read them too. I don't know if Melinda receives these posts or not but if you do, Melinda, I just want to say thanks for writing a great novel and keep on writing.

I am a great fan of Haynes fiction, is the wonderful grasp of life that is "Chalktown" can indeed be called fiction. In some ways if belongs in the poetry genre, or that great repository of disguised truth, the tall tale. There are always those wonderful tall tale elements that keeps on progressing to the end, which is in itself one of the finest of tall tales, or short stories or whatever you want to call it I have read, and in it that wonderful, sometimes grisly irony, when we find ourselves asking, "what is life all about anyway?"
