A post I must have made sometime earlier was replied to on 07/24/2006, by somebody who left out his name. It was suggested I should not spread rumours. I haven't spread any rumours, especially about Freddie Forsyth. I have merely told the truth.

A most predictable story line with no twists and poorly writen. The detailed descriptions of gun size, bullet shape, engine power dominates the book. Forsyth seems preoccupied with telling the reader every bit of knowledge he acquired in researching the story, most of it unnecessary and irrelevant. It reminds me of how a young boy tells an action story - 'and then ...., and then...., and then they all got shot and blown up and died. The End' The final scene completely lacked suspense or intrigue. A poor and unexciting read.

I just saw the 2-part series for Icon and thought it was terrible - so far from the book that it was almost unrecognizable - I could write a better script.

My favorite scene in forsyth's book occurs in ICON. When Sir Nigel goes to Russia with Jason Monk(I believe), he meets with Anatoly Grishin, head of security for Igor Victor'ich Komorov, he treats himself for a high handed conversation. Jason translates it to Anatoly and things get worse since Sir Nigel would engage in making Anatoly look like stepped on. Note that he is making things worse by talking too high handed which Jason fears for his life to translate as all of Anatoly's men point their guns at these two Brits. Then, Before Anatoly can realize, all the occupants of the restaurant at the time just raise their guns and point at Anatoly's Men. Sir Nigel then walks out as though he was aware of nothing.
This is one scene I enjoy very much.

my feelings are that he is definately an englishman (his attitude towards the french at the meeting with rodin, his mentality ect.), but who is he!? there is a point in the book when he gets his driving licence frauded he gives his real name, but i couldn't find that point. what are your feelings towards who you think he is? i'm glad to be of help

but does anyone know who the jackal was? it really annoyed me when i finnished it and ended in a cliff hanger. if it wasnt calthrop, then how did they get the name of duggan?

While it may not be "politically" correct at the present time, why was this book not made into a movie? Many lesser and unbelievable in content has made it to the big screen.
I enjoyed the the book immensely.

I dodn't really like this book, but you have to had it to forsyth: He really knows a LOT about France. A frickin'three hundred and 58 page book all about France, Guns, and eztensive background of characters. As it was gently put in a description of the book, it has "significantly more descriptions than dialogue." no kidding. You'd think Forsyth had gone on quotation mark rations. Interesting plot, but way, way too much information in between.
