I loved the heroine's (Renee's) struggle with temptation. In 1910, a divorce, always cast a detrimental shadow on the woman. People she knew closely during her marriage, questioned her sanity. She received an invitation for marraige, from a suitor whom she liked and spent a lot of time with driving through the country. His family possesed a fortune; unfortunately he failed to earn his own. Renee wrestled with the idea of keeping her personal freedom. Could she maintain it while being married? Perhaps start writing again, because her work outside the home would terminate? Find out. This is the first feminist novel of it's time. A smart and incisve, initial attempt at a topic that still causes heated debate today.
