Evelyn Burns Robinson Message Board

Jackie posts on 3/5/2006 4:21:25 PM I have also not read any of Robinson's books. However I have read many of her articles. Although some of her sources may be credible, she will not open her mind to all of the possibilities that lead to an adoption. I was adopted and I think it was the best thing that ever happened to me. My birth mother diagnosed with depression, anorexia, bulimia, and severe mental disturbance. She was in jail for six and a half year for assault with intent to kill and after her release from prison and prior to her suicidal death in January of 2004, I had a restraining order forbiding her from coming around me or trying to contact me after several threats were made against my life. She was unfit to be a mother and my fater was not in the picture and didn't want to be. The only other option for me was adoption. My adopted parents did not try to hide my adoption and openly discussed my birth parents anytime I asked. I disagree with everything Robinson says and believe she should take into account every possible situation before speaking her opinions so bluntly and saying every adopted child will feel abandon have psychological problems.
Cheryl posts on 9/6/2005 5:15:22 AM I have read Evelyn's books, and she does indeed site credible sources (much research has been done on adoption and loss issues)- but one needs an OPEN mind to take in that which is being said. I am an adoptee and was in denial for 35 years. I thought I had NO problem with being adopted, but now I am understanding why things have never been RIGHT in my life. I miss my natural mum with all my heart - we should have NEVER been seperated. Thanks Evelyn for your books - they are helping unravel the "WHO AM I ?".
sarah posts on 4/10/2005 1:59:18 PM i have not read any of evelyns books, however i have read some of her essays. what amazes me is that they are full of opinion and rhetoric and she does not cite any research or credible sources to back up her thoughts. a real expert knows that research must be included in order to have your ideas taken seriously. she seems to be quite taken with herself and unwilling to look at the positive ways that adoption has impacted thousands of people. she is a poor debator and offers no credibility.
