Ms. Lucy Maud Montgomery you are FANTASTIC;Such a BRILLIANT writer. I WISH I GO TO PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, and see your home, your room. and every thing concern to you. I can not beleive; you have gone in 1942. really sad.

What is the difference between The road to Avonlea and Tales of Avonlea? Also, does anyone know where I can find the movies based on the Emily books by L.M. Montgomery?

No, Windy Poplars and Avonlea and what not aren't real places, but there is a lake near Cavendish beach named the Lake Of Shining Waters. Also, I was wondering if you guys liked the Anne books or the Emily books better? Just out of curiosity.

Avonlea, White Sands, and the other towns mentioned in the series are invented by L.M. Montgomery, but are based on real places. Avonlea is a composite of the places where Montgomery grew up, primarily the town of Cavendish, where the real "Green Gables" still stands. For more info, read Montgomery's journals, where she answers this question herself, at length, even telling where the inspiration for the Lake of Shining Waters and other landmarks came from.
