In The Darwin Conspiracy, Mr. Darnton mentions that Darwin and FitzRoy went to Quail Island in Cape Verde islands. The only Quail island is in New Zealand. Can anybody help me and say where I can find the correct name? Thank you.

Just read this, and after reading glowing reviews re the author's attention to research, just wanted to note the following. I was amused to find so many things in my life: Duke Med ctr. for research and grad sch., the name of a twin is my husband's name; the adventures in my home town, greenwich conn, including the inn which belongs to a friend of my parents, and again, the reference to duke med ctr at the end. He got greenwich right, but Tizzie's credentials, titles, and place of work aren't. Is she truly research Ph.D in genetics? "3yrs at duke med school" makes her neither md nor phd. also, at end, she's doing research at duke in raleigh? i think the durhamsters from durham would object to that. still an interesting read.

I read the Darwin Conspiracy and enjoyed it a lot. Much like Dan Brown novels, mixing fact with speculative fiction. I am envious of researchers having access immediately to the material they have to have for the narrative to keep pace with the page-turning, and Hugh and Beth both were extremely fortunate Darnton fed it to them non-stop. It was interesting how he built his story on the aspect of Darwin's ill-health. Really good story-telling.

Has anyone read John Darnton's new book, "The Darwin Conspiracy". It's awesome. A big step forward. Like all Darnton's books, you really learn a lot about the true history and science of Darwin and his theory but this one also has a big fictional leap that makes it a major page turner and really takes on the whole question of creationism vs. intelligent design.

i read the book a few years back and on the cover it stated "soon to be a motion picture by steven spellberg." is it true because I've have not seen or read anything about it on any movie web site to date.

HI I also read the book and thought that the movies' story was taken from there. Although there are several differences, it is extremely evident that the movie is based in Darnton's book. It is really a shame that he gets no credit on the movie site or credits!

My first thought when I saw review of the new Ewan McGregor movie the Island was that it was a take off of John Darnton's novel The Experiment. What a shame. Because, The Experiement was a wonderful book full of rich charcters and would have made a wonderful movie. I sure hope John Darnton gets part of the movie royalties...it looks like someone hijacked his premise.
