Laura posts on 8/20/2005 10:12:15 PM Gotta say, this is my all time favorite series (see the Green Pearl and Madouc). Vance approaches fantasy with an offbeat melodrama which is so practical it makes me smile. In what other place would you find a troll's head making time across the lawn with it's teeth? I love the matter-of-factness of tragedy in this set. Vance also appeals to the heart with the cleverness and infalability of the heros. Aillas and Dhrun are men of determination who are also compassionate and approachable. You have to love it when the good guys win. I wish Vance would write another fantasy series (no offense, but clones and laser guns just aren't that appealing). My two copies of Lyonesse are battered from rereading.
