I believe that Edith Wharton's The Buchaneers raises the spector of genetic terrorism; where any woman can be displaced regardless of citizenship due to her status as eligible chattel in the current media marketplace. One only has to look at the forlorn faces of fashion models to see that their hope of adoption is reducible to a state sponsored pre-imminent fantasy promoted by advertising and tv. eriii
