I just finished "The Last Time They Met". At first I was very confused by the ending. I don't really think that all the story happens in Thomas's head. My feeling is that throughout his life he searched for his "linda" in all his other relationships and couldn't ever have her. Her death at 17 really affected him and all his other relationships. The other "linda's" I think are women that he was involved with and compared to her. He was deeply affected by her and always tried to find her in other women. Maybe they were similar to her in some way, but since she had died, they couldn't be her.

Did Charles commit suicide on that bridge or was that an accident. I am talking about Anita Shreve's book Where or When.

I totally agree. I can't think of any clues and my mind was "blown" by the ending. What are we supposed to think, then, of the rest of the story? I guess the clue is right at the end....it must have been all in Thomas' mind. The way it was written, though, puts it in the category of fantasy, which doesn't compute. Does this make sense?

I read The Pilot's Wife and thought it was a waste of time. It didn't even seem that realistic -- why did the pilot choose as his second wife a woman with such a lack of class? I don't know why Oprah chose it for her book club.

I thought the book was terrible! It dragged on for 400 needless pages!

Hi:I just finished this book and I previously read Weight of Water. Maybe I'm just dense but I don't understand. Did Linda really die when she was 17. Was Thomas's love so great for her that he imagined the other times they met?

I adored the last time they met but I knew before I started it that I had to prepare for an endintg I might not like. Still how can you not love that book?

I would like to know the title of the novel that deals with this issue by Shreve? Thank you.
