to the student who called the teacher many unkind names---i was given "The Good Earth" by Pearl S. Buck as a reading assignment. This book was published in the 1930's and the main character is a man named Wang Lung and it is about his journey of life. i was not thrilled however, this book touched many lives...you need to shut your mouth and open your mind.

Lonesome Dove is a great American classic and is one of the best books ive ever read. It didnt win a Pullitzer Prize for nothing. Those who think it is a waste of time are illiterate as far as I'm concerned.

run to a bookstore and purchase this book. if someone would have told me i would enjoy a book about a cattle drive to montana i would have thought them nuts. i read this book over 16 years ago and feel like i made every mile with the entire group and what a great group of characters they are. when the tv mini-series came out i was thrilled that it did the book justice. read it first as it contains thoughts and emotions captured perfectly by larry mc murtry. it is on my son's summer reading list and i'm thrilled that we can enjoy it again.

Lomesome Dove is not something I would recomend to other people. Unless they enjoy reading poorly written litature. Or if the person enjoys reading about cowboys and mexicans. Otherwise don't waste your time with this book. Go find another book that has been written well.
