I just finished this book, and really thought it was amazing! It's constant reminder of contrast between our worlds is proof that the author was a genius. I know it based on a true story but it is the way he worded it that amazed me.

Im 13yo and I love this book! I'm full blooded Cherokee. One thing I love about this book is that for a change, the author gives CORRECT accounts of atrocities commited during those times. With the exception of a very few tribes, the vast majority of Native Americans didnt attack unless doing so in retaliation for an attack on them.

In real life, what happened to Ben MacDonald when he grew up ? Did he or any other family members ever record their own account of "Incident at Hawk's Hill" ? How did Allan Eckert discover and research the story ?

I read this as an adult and couldn't put this book down! I have always loved animal stories but this topped all I have read. I would love to be able to write true stories like this one. It is amazing what animals will do in certain circumstances.
