Victoria posts on 9/1/2008 4:18:42 PM Lillian, I just read Rachal's Journey. I was researching my Great Grandfather, Harry James Skeffington, when I found your story. Your account of Rachel and Abe's journey to America was made personnal to me by the small role my great grandfather played. Your relatives persistance (how afraid they must have been) is what made the dream of a better life for thier family possible. I wanted to let you know that not long after your family's ordeal my great grandfather became Commissioner of Immigration for Boston, and in the fall of 1926, just prior to his death, was elected the democratic candidate to run for mayor of Revere.
