When Udpike uses those words following Janice's realization that Rebecca has drowned, does Updike mean to say that the "worst thing" is (1) the death of a child or (b) a mother's killing her child?

Hi Kris, I know that there is nothing readable on the net about Updike. The most important source you can refer to is "New Essys on Rabbit Run" by Stanley Trachenberge. I aslo mangaged to find some useful matrial which can be helpful for Socio-historical analysis of Rabbit Run. If you let me know of you "statement of problem", I think i clould be helpful more. Pl.
