I LOVE all of the "Clancy" books no matter what any of you report because different people have different ideas on whats a good book.

Does ANYONE know where Tom Clancy is and why he has not published a new hardback in quite a few years? Has he quit writing such books? Is he permanently retired?
The world events of the last 8 years have certainly been fertile ground for him to develop an intriguing plot for a new book.
God knows we need a real Jack Ryan (and Jack Bauer) instead of the metrosexual commie we've put in the White House.

OK, I'm about 15 years late, but just finished "Debt of Honor." While a very good story, I was a little puzzled by Clancy's lack of research on some pretty basic stuff. For instance, when experiencing her first ride on Air Force One, Cathy Ryan is described as being served by an "Air Force corporal." There is no such thing! If he wanted to refer to an enlisted person with two stripes on his/her sleeve, that is an "Airman First Class." That happened relatively early in the book and it basically ruined it for me because I kept looking for more mistakes.

I didn't enjoy the book to "Frothy'
and simplified. I have a hard time believing he even wrote it.
Is the stage set for another Clancy blockbuster to explain all the missing characters perhaps. Personally if this is going to be the style of his future novels. I sadly will not be bothered with them.

I think I actually picked up one of those books at one time and noticed that it was written by someone else and put it down immediately. Any "Op-Center", "Net Force" or "Splinter Cell" books ARE NOT written by Clancy. The only thing his name has to do with it is to lure unsuspecting readers into buying the books thinking he wrote them, when, in fact, it's just a scam to get you to buy someone else's books.

Just a warning out there... I am a BIG Tom Clancy fan - read most of his stuff. Was at the airport the other day and picked up "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell".... His name is ALL over it... I did not pay too much attention to the cover. The book/series is NOT written by him! Don't be fooled! Nowhere near Clancy quality!

Since I have to "leave the Subject line above blank!," I'll just post my opinion here:
Alec Baldwin was the perfect actor to play Jack Ryan (at least, at the time.) Competent, analytical, intellectually gifted, family-oriented, yet vulnerable, as a hero, Jack Ryan is not exactly perfectly portrayed as a "Hand Solo, Raiders of the Lost Arc" type person.
Your mistake.
He was a latter day, hero. Jack loves family, friends and country. Jack also knows what needws to be done and knows how to do it.
David Duchovny is the only credible, box-office replacement for Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan.
There is no replacement for Sean Connery, as Bond, you agree?
If there is an actor for Jack Ryan (I do not say "If there is a replacement for Alec Baldwin," - as he just happened to be perfect at the moment...) I hope you consider this opinion.

To Ed Mitchell: Regarding your first point...If the reader can't keep things straight, they need to find an easier author to read. Point 2...I don't read him for male/female interaction. That's what romance novels are for. Point 3...People who need to rely on some form of video to relate to books should just stick video. I love Clancy's 1000-page books where the first 750 pages are slowly and meticulously building up for the big finale. I think Clancy's last book was a big disappointment because it seemed to try to do everything you're trying to do. And that's just not what I want to see from him.
