Johanna,books i can sugest, anything by Bukowski, The L.A. diaries by James Brown, Junky by William Burroughs, and The peculiar memories of Thomas Penman by Bruce Robinson.

Well presumably you know of Fear and Loathing in Las vegas #Hunter's Seminal piece. Try Hells angels or Fear and loathing on campaign trail 72.
My personal favorite is Screwjack, but that's pretty rare. The library should have most of them try looking under Journalism or Biographies, that's where they're usually kept.

I've been reading the rum diary by thompson and i thougt it was great. I would love to read more of his writing, but the rum diary was the only book by him in our liberary. I would therefore like some sugestions on other similar books/authors, with the same feeling, location etc..

Perhaps Hunter decided to shoot himself because he realized his property was one of the few remaining places in Colorado he could smoke . . . maybe he was tired of being "Hunter S. Thompson"; maybe he had received some bad medical news, and given a choice, decided to go out on his terms; or, maybe he could feel the weight of the universe upon him, making him cosmically tired and he knew the big sleep was the only sleep there was.
The point is, it doesn't matter why he did it; he did not go gentle into that good night, spending his last days in some kind of "assisted living" establishment. That would have been a tragedy for a man who somehow managed to make a career out of living his life wide-open and writing about it. Let us mark his death by celebrating our lives as he did his.
Hunter, we'll miss you.
