I loved the scene near the beginning when Margot is on a train in Italy. She's sitting in a compartment reading an Italian novel. Her two companions assume that she is an Italian and does not speak English. They relate intimate stories about their pasts. Margot pretends not to understand and feels invisible. When the women discover that she is an American, they feel betrayed, but Margot has done nothing wrong. Author of the novels, Circles of Stone and I'll Paint a Sun

I found this to be an incredibly moving book. Characters and place were wonderful. I have to say my favorite part of the book (it is hard to choose, really) but I would have to say it was the part about what finally was decided to be on the girl's tombstone. It was something. It was a great book and I will go find more by him soon.
