This story is about a girl from the country who visits a friend and her family in the city. There is the trip when she is younger, and there is when she moves to the city and works. For the various characters love happens and fails, fortunes are gained and lost, and in the end people are exactly where they want to be (for the most part).

If Louisa May Alcott were alive today, she'd be 173 years old. She died on March 6, 1888 at the age of 56.
