I throughouly Anjoyed Wet's writing style. As the Series progresses, the books get easier and easier to read. I have to admit, that the first book did take too long to get to the point, and for me, the first book really had no point excpet to introduc (some) of the characters. but from then on, I was hooked. The poetic writing style had me captivated, and I almost felt as if I was there. I almost had trouble reading the last page of the last book, because I did not want it to end. I really hope that more books are published which include the same characters.

I actually really enjoy West's writing style. There are a few points where the novels drag for me, but I think that is due to my own preferences rather than any lack on her part. Personally, I feel that her style draws me in more than that of many other fantasy authors.

I agree with the original poster. West has a too-elaborate writing style, but a wonderful plot. Even the layout of the novel is almost perfect, but her writing style messes it up. This writing style only helps her in the most dramatic parts. Like when we first meet Daine, for instance. That was beautifully written. But it almost destroys most of the action sequences. I had no idea what was going on in the seen where Kiriel gets her ring (in that tavern) or when Aidan is attacked by the "man with the gloves." I had to reread it several times, and I am still not sure I understand what happened. And I, like the original poster, consider myself to be quite good a deciphering difficult text, so that is saying something. My advice to West is simply to be more concise. Imagery works, but it should be used as occasional emphasis, not constant description.
