Lover of Old West posts on 9/27/2009 12:25:52 PM Okay, you guys. Stop your school yard arguing. Lovesome Dove is my all-time favorite book and TV event! I have seen the movie more than a dozen times, and feel personally connected to both Gus & Cpt Cull. Our son was born in Miles City, Montana, so you know we are all practically related! :-) That said, we really enjoyed Brules & Scout on audio. We often drive to the Rockies, which takes about 30 hours of riding. Harry's stories and Stacy's voice helped make the miles fly! He gave great descriptions, and my imagination took over. My scenes are very detailed and far more creative than most of what Hollywood gives us! Lonesome Dove remains my #1 of all time! That doesn't take away the pleasure of a long visit with Brules. Now you all enjoy what you like, respect others' opinions, and stop bickering! Enjoy! There really aren't enough stories of this genre. PS: I am a card carrying member of the Roy Rogers Riders Club; listen only to Dusty Rogers' music (Roy's son). I identify with their values and love the whole family! Also,I am on a Louie L'Amour kick. I love cowboys! Let's all 'cowboy up' and stick together!
b.pierce posts on 2/1/2008 11:58:06 PM Well...3 years later and no movies has been made of this lousy book, and none ever will be. You people are way to easy to please if you think that drek like this great writing.
posts on 7/3/2006 6:10:22 PM Just finished Brules. Thought it to be 695 pages of pure entertaiment. My favorite part was he as the narrator telling the reader over the course of 20 or so pages the fate of his friend Pedro and the hide wagon by reading 'sign'. I have bought The Scout and look forward to it. I don't know if a movie is in the future but as to actor, Batman Begins Christian Bale would be a good choice.

posts on 6/5/2006 10:24:53 AM you make me laugh lonsome dove. Brules is by far one of the best westerns to come along EVER I agree with the guy about the movie but I think brules would be a better movie one of the many things that make this such a good book is that even though you know brules lives you still get a knout in your stomach at times like when he's in that commanche campthis book is great
b.pierce posts on 12/31/2005 3:42:20 AM Uh, Lonesome Dove won the Pulitzer prize. And was made into the greatest mini series with Robert Duval, Tommy Lee Jones etc. Brules has won...well its been made into...staring... nobody. If you want to be bored to death by a long winded liar telling you about his feats of daring do then you would love Brules. However the story about tracking the wounded Comanche(broken hip), for instance, that goes on forever, then he ends it by shooting him in the neck from point blank range. Please, that was long winded tracking story number infinetly by that point. And the stuff about shooting deer and only keeping the backstraps, that tells you alot about Combs own hunting ethics. And if you want to go to The Scout and his references to Lieutenant Colonel Custer as the General, and how brilliant he was in getting massacred, and how Mitch Bouyer was a double agent for the Souix. Come on gimme a break. Oh and lets not forget his beloved old steed Piebald who he discovered being the main stud in a wild horse herd. Come to think of it, I might have sold Pee Wee and Don Knotts short.
Clark Dwinell posts on 12/30/2005 1:45:34 PM I have just listened (2nd time) to Brules as read by Stacy Keach. Although I am an avid reader, listening to audio tapes on car trips is excellent. Stacy gives the Brules character such depth, and displays a sense of involvement rarely felt. The conclusion is all but pre destined, but very well handled. Sensitive. As a former ranch hand, I have a strong connection to the "cowboy" life. This book could not be more outstanding in every sense. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)
Joseph Monteith posts on 12/8/2005 4:39:35 PM Just admit it! You like Brules! I bet you like Pee wee too! HA! Your just jealous! That Lonesome Dove wasn't half as good as O'l Brules... Lonsome Dove was good... But.... I found it to be too.... oidfjalkd..
b.pierce posts on 12/8/2005 4:22:49 PM How about Don Knotts, or Pee Wee Herman. It would have to be comedy, since nobody could take a windbag like Brules seriously.
Joseph Monteith posts on 12/6/2005 10:49:52 AM I love the book Brules. Liked it better then The Scout. But I think that the book The Scout would be better to make a movie out of then Brules. A few people that have read the books agree with me too! If the books were ever to be made into a movie.... Which actor do you think should play Brules? JM
b.pierce posts on 5/7/2005 6:08:08 AM Please, the man is dead, he could build planes, he couldn't write! The Brules books are terrible! Read Centenial by Michener, or Lonesome Dove, then tell me about about westerns.
