To: Alun G. Davies I actually tried to reply to you on this site in the past but, for some reason, the message I posted never came through. I'm always interested in talking about Wittgenstein or certain other areas of philosophy, so by all means please get back to me. If this message goes through, I'll be grateful, though, if it doesn't, I don't know if I'll try again. SWM

Stuart - I recently read your review concerning Avrum Stroll's "Wittgenstein" and though it took me a little while to hunt you down, I was in such agreement with what you had written there that I thought I'd try and get in touch with you. Stroll has written much better works - his "Introduction to 20th Century Philosophy" is wonderful for anyone wishing to understand the subject and if you do take up a further interest in modern trends of Wittgensteinian philosophy, his "Skethes of Landscapes" is worth a look also. However, this latest book is uninspiring, flat, and elementary even though it brings "On Certainty" more into the picture than some others do. I should also say that, to my knowledge, Ray Monk's extensive biography "Wittgenstein: The Duty of Genius" gives the best exposition of his moral thought as well as being a superior work in itself. The reader really gets a feel for Wittgenstein and Monk is unperturbed when it comes to explaining the ideas alongside the life. Read it - you'll enjoy. Anyway - I've been studying Wittgenstein in my own time for a couple of years now and aim towards getting something published soon. Please get in touch if you'd like to discuss the matter, or anything else pertaining to philosophy or literature, further. Hope to hear from you! Alun G. Davies
