An incredible book by a truly great author. It leaves anyone and everyone with a feeling of being lucky to not have witnessed it or been in the position of one of them.

i hope it's not only good reviews that end up here. i really hated this book. not for the writing but for the sense of hopelessness it left in me. the poor characters never get any chance. in the end, the main 'hero' is dead, the woman is tragically denied any happiness, and the two low caste men are pathetically left in the street, missing limbs and genitals, begging for food. it was awful.

What an incredible story, I couldn't put it down, I cried, laughed and felt the pain of the characters, that is what reading is all about, connecting with the Author and the characters. I consider it one of my facorite reads.

the most important thing about a novel is to tell a tale and to tell it true.therein lies mistrys greatness.his stories come from the depth of truth and hence his characters are realistic and his books eminently readable.

I've read all of Rohinton Mistry's novels and have loved each one. I am now wondering when and if Mistry has any new books in the works. I am looking forward reading them.

Mistry worte a compelling novel, the only book I ever read that made me feel I was a part of the emotions. I'll never forget the characters, and their struggles. I can only dream of being half the writer as Rohinton Mistry is. He's on my top ten list of people to meet before I die.
