I am an avid reader of many genres but particularly enjoy mystery novels. Some of my favorite authors are, P.D. James, Ruth Rendell (of the British authors) and my all time favorite North American author of mysteries is Patricia MacDonald. Her plots are never formulaic but always different, well written and absolutely gripping. I have read everything she has published and am never disappointed. It must be wonderful to have the ability to write like that. Hope she lives to a ripe old age and continues to hone her craft. I can't imagine how she could get any better at it but will keep reading anything she writes.
